When the summer winds down...

Bryn Here! Welcome to September. It was a busy summer for Mr. AL and me at AlChemy Ranch Studios. I enjoyed playing around with gouache and multimedia like these swans.

I used watercolor, gouache, colored pencils, and markers...and I felt like a kid in Kindergarten..."What if I did this? What if I added these? What would happen if I

did that?"

Next up for me, I am going to focus on oil pastels. It’s been a while since I have played with them, and their brilliant colors are whispering to me. I am still in "play mode." Gonna follow my muse's nudges.

I made a little movie of some of my recent paintings.

It’s only a couple of minutes long.

In the movie, I spoke about not being quite happy with Appaloosa Eye and was going to work on it further. Here is what it looks like now.

IS IT TOO EARLY TO TALK ABOUT HOLIDAY GIFT IDEAS?

In our Galleria, our best sellers in the By Brynn Design offerings are our mugs. As a THANK YOU, we will reimburse the shipping amount if you were to buy three or more mugs. There are close to 30 different designs to choose from...lots of choices for all those on your

gift-giving list.

Here's Mr. Al

Where do our thoughts turn when summer winds down? Let's be honest, shall we? Bryn and I begin to realize we will soon be losing the luxury of our lovely green enclosure. We get spoiled when we feel we are shrouded by our luxurious summer leaves, and soon our privacy is going to be yanked from beneath our feet! The leaves will fall, allowing the refinery lights to invade our sanctuary. And no, we don't actually have a refinery across the creek...but all of their security lights make it feel that way.

We've been having a really pleasant and cool summer so far. I don't think we've reached 100°F, which is unusual for the ten years we've lived in the PMW. Even the occasional misty gray day has allowed us to save water by not having to water our various flowers.

What's happening in the carving shop? What are the current evolutions that have transpired in Huldufólk Haven? Many questions occur as we begin to think about the fall.

Shop talk

The main carving occupying my time this season has been 'Ruin.' It was found within a Live Edge Norway maple slab that I bought from Hamilton Lee Supply in Battle Ground, Washington. A shout-out to Brad Williams (no relation.) Thank you for the great variety of live edge slabs, primarily used for creating 'river' tables with polyurethane resin (along with all the necessary products to accomplish them.)

Here is a movie Bryn made to show you a close-up of RUIN.

The Eagle carving I did last spring was sold! YAY, and a sniff...(I will miss it.) They kind of become your children, so when they leave the nest, an empty 'space' remains. But not to worry, I'll get over it!

And I hope the new owners will enjoy it as much as I did carving it.

One on the docket was also inspired by our trip to Utah last fall. It's actually one of the paint/print artwork pieces Bryn and I collaborated on with a granary and a raven, which you can find in our Canyonlands Collection. When will that be happening?

It's actually an interesting story. The Granary carving is all drawn and set to go when another carving demanded my attention, and begged to be withdrawn from the wood.

With the pile of shavings on the floor, the yin-yang symbol firmly establishes itself to commemorate the nearing of the male and female energies in our society at present.

The granary and raven will work their way into the schedule soon.

In Huldufólkian lore.

It was brought to the attention of the facilitators that there seemed to be trouble in paradise when it appeared the brand-new Council House was literally sinking!

It required a Geotechnical Engineer to implement a study to speculate the reason and/or reasons for the suddenness of the catastrophe. It was determined that the tunneling of the subterranean furry creatures (moles) had actually created an empty space under the building. Combined with the stump rotting underground, large vacancies of supposedly supporting earth could no longer hold up the structure with its massive stone porch.

Some floors are leaning currently, but it's expected that they will be permanently corrected shortly. Well, shortly may be a bit of a stretch, but it will be done in due time. Rest assured.

And there you have it.

Enjoy your September, and we will touch base with you in October.
