Summertime! After several days of rain, we are experiencing glorious summer days with light breezes and highs in the low to middle 70’s. Just beautiful! Mr. AL and I took a 20-minute break yesterday and lay in the grass watching the birds and the cottonwood fluff
drift by.
This past month, I focused on two commissions, some research, and so-called 'back office' stuff. Thus, I am looking forward to the freedom of exploring and painting on my own. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy commission work very much (back office, notsomuch.) Commissions are not a job for me. Rather, a commissioned painting is a co-creation with my client, and I love that. I love the challenge of really listening to what they are picturing, and then translating that into a painting.

Having said that, I did manage to sneak in a painting of my own, Painted Pony. It’s now taped to my “viewing wall” where I can sit with it and see if I want to do more work on it, and to determine if it’s “print worthy.” What do you think? Think it would look good as a print, all framed and nicely matted?
Speaking of prints…change is in the air. We applied and were accepted to sell our brand on Faire.com. Faire.com is like an Etsy store for wholesalers. We are really excited about getting more eyes on our artwork, and we are going to begin with selling prints to wholesalers. What does this mean? It means three things: 1) Beginning July 1st, with the exception of the Canyonlands Collection, we will no longer be selling prints. 2)Beginning July 1st, we will only be selling original artwork. 3) We will always, however, take special orders such as a print-on-canvas or commissioned paintings. Simply reach out to us.
As for the Brynn Design home decor, if we happen to ever sell those wholesale, we will continue to offer them, but the prices may alter a little.
Now for Mr. Al...
First, let's expand a little into AlChemy Ranch Studios.
The idea of Bryn and my ‘team’ aspect and how we bounce ideas and directions off one another. Each piece created is actually a collaboration. Some ideas of Bryn’s will appear in my woodcarvings. My suggestions end up in Bryn’s paintings. While we each maintain our own studios, we view the Ranch as our collective. Stay tuned. We will be implementing alterations with the segmentation of some elements.

We have decided that both Bryn and I suffer from a technological mental block with regard to gadgets! We were so excited to get Mr. DeMille close-up pictures of our birdies. Thinking we had a good one (which we probably did), there was no power on Earth that would allow us to operate it. Next, as promised, a movement-operated wildlife camera to overlook Huldufólk Haven…especially at night! Well, guess what?
So far…the SD card keeps telling us we’re idiots! Blank. It remains a mystery.

We’ve had a lingering and wetter-than-normal spring here in the PNW, which has both been a blessing and a curse. A blessing in that I’ve been able to play a little bit with some assemblage, including carvings I’ve done in the past, and to begin a carving that will require a very long time
to complete. You will be getting updates!
For the inhabitants of the Haven, it has caused somewhat of a curse because my assistance is required for the spring cleaning in the hood! I’ve done some, but more is needed.
Dudes and Dudettes, it’s coming, it’s coming. Patience is required!
And, of course, the prolonged drizzle has inspired the lawn into overdrive, and it is tough to keep up with. Bryn and I are definitely getting our steps in! This is when we like to employ the adage…all in good time.
I am extremely excited to fill you in on the new carving, besides the concept I was concerned about. But there are things to do, so I will share my recent assemblages instead.

I carved these little shoes for a LightMusic lamp I created entitled 'Running Lights.'

A long time ago, I carved two fish. One had a person's arm and wristwatch placed just behind the gills. I used the arm with the hand holding my graphic design business card attached to a spring in a box as a promotional mailer. When the box was opened, my card popped up. It did inspire a project....but only one. I wish I had that carving back!
Even though it’s cool and sunny (perfect HH productivity weather), I’m torn because I want to carve, too! I wonder if I can multitask. Again…all in good time.
School will be letting out soon. Vacations are being planned. We hope you have a fabulous June and can keep up with your
growing lawn (if it applies!) Cheers!
