98.89% of my carving work is done by hand, mallets, chisels, gouges, rasps, and dental picks. In a departure and to portray the stone and peck technique used by the ancients in carving petroglyphs, I chose to use a rotary burr for the indentation. I give you, “Listen...and the stones will speak,” ‘pecked’ into a slice of manzanita root burl from north-central California that’s moved with me for over ten years. It probably isn’t going to get any drier!
It is approximately 15” wide by 10” tall and about an inch thick.
